This past week was a whirlwind for our Skycraft Studios team.
We were lucky enough to get to see our Producer Rob Paulele set sail on the first leg of the Hokule’a worldwide voyage.
A little history on the Hokule’a. The ship is one of the most iconic and culturally important vessels still sailing on the ocean today. It is a symbol of thousands of years of heritage and wayfinding that the Polynesian people hold so dear to their hearts. It is a ship that very few get the honor to sail on and experience the sacred harmony it manifests amongst its crew.
It is Captained this year by master waterman Archie Kalepa. Archie is a big wave surfing legend from Hawaii and a member of the Polynesian Voyaging Society.
Nainoa Thompson, the current Executive Director of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, opened this years voyage with a press conference expressing the importance of keeping the Hokule’a world wide voyage alive for future generations.
Rob Paulele, one of our Producers, getting a rare opportunity to sail with Hokule’a on its first leg to Maui.
The symbol of an entire cultures hopes and dreams sits proudly docked on Sand Island prior to voyaging the south Pacific.
Two of the greatest waterman in the world, Nainoa Thompson and Archie Kalepa prepare to set sail by stressing the importance of Hokule’a, and passing down its significance to younger navigators.
